PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Course (OWSI)

The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor program is your final step in the quest to become a PADI Instructor. During the IDC, you’ll learn to use and adapt the PADI System of diver education to individual student needs. Comprehensive training, supported by a wide variety of PADI educational materials, earns PADI Instructors respect from both students and peers.

The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor rating sets you apart from the crowd. PADI Instructors may conduct the entire range of PADI programs – from Discover Scuba Diving through Divemaster.
PADI Instructors do things others can only daydream about.

What do I need to start?

  • Meet all IDC/AI course prerequisites
  • PADI Assistant Instructor or current instructor member in good standing with a recognized recreational training organization for at least six months

Please Note: 6 months as a certified diver and 100 logged dives are required to enter the Instructor Examination unless enrolled in our CDC package.

Since Planet Scuba is a PADI Career Development Center, you can participate in the PADI IE prior to meeting the experience requirement of 100 dives, when enrolled in five of the CDC pre- and/or post-IDC courses (Pre-study, EFR and all Specialty courses qualify).
Candidates who successfully complete a PADI IDC conducted by a Career Development Center may attend a PADI IE if they have been certified divers for at least six months, have logged at least 60 dives and are certified PADI Assistant Instructors.

Certification as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor will take place when the 100 dives requirement has been met.
